been a while….

April 20th, 2012 No comments

What a month this has been for me.

I will keep it short and sweet.

Collar bone surgery? Broken in four places and is now back in “one” metal piece. Please ignore the 16 year old photo in the mirror medium:

They did a nerve block for the operation. When it wore off I can honestly say that I have NEVER felt pain like I did when my arm woke up. I was STONED on pills for two days just to keep myself even. I have felt a lot of pain my time but crap that fucking hurt. Add the two broken ribs and you get a party of nerve fun.

Did this keep me off the bike? Ummmmm….

So, I am getting off the pain meds and have been resuming my coaching. To tell you the truth, I love racing on the velodrome. I don’t ever want to race on the road again. So, back on the trainer I am because before this I was in pretty good shape and working toward having a blast on the track this summer.

I am still going to do that but now I am working even harder to make up for a month of not being able to really throw myself into training.

But training I am:

In the mean time, in between trying to make myself puke on a trainer with one arm on the handle bars, Erica and I went to San Diego.

I wanted this to be a racing trip for myself but ended up not working out that way because of, well, being hurt. God I wanted to though. Had Erica not bastardized my road bike for parts so she could race I would have. I swear.

We did got to Mexico for three hours.

We actually walked across the boarder and back and the back part took two hours compared to the 30 seconds it took to get into Mexico. Please note, you don’t get passport stamps, which is BS.

My new road bike is almost ready.

Not racing it but it will get a lot of miles for training and such.

It was my birthday this week.

It was pretty zen and calm, just the way I like it. Yep, half my life is over, put that in your pipe and smoke it.

A friend of mine’s wife left him after being married three months. Wow. I say wow because she bugged the piss out of him to get married for better part of time I have know him, which is like six years.

My Stepfather has level 3 throat cancer. Talk about putting my petty blog into perspective. The guy is kind of a dick but my mom doesn’t deserve the pain of the next possible year he might or might not live.

I am making pasta and vegie sauce for dinner tonight. I will probably watch “Lost”.

Tomorrow morning I am going to get up and try and make myself puke again. I have two races under my belt. I did 160+ last year. I am little behind schedule.

Hope you all are well.

thinking….

March 20th, 2012 No comments

I had a crash during my second race of the season a couple weeks ago. I don’t know but I always seem to crash in a way that messes up my season, my job or in some way that makes my life altered in some way.

No, I am not being dramatic. It just seems like a pattern.

I am scheduled for surgery this Thursday. I am a little nervous about it for some reason. I know it is pretty “simple” to have your collar bone set in metal. It happens all the time yet I am still a little nervous about it.

So, I went to the track today to get some lap time in. I love having a velodrome to yourself. You can hear the rhythm of the chain and the tires on the surface and the wind whistling through the helmet. It is very calming.

I have two broken ribs along with the broken collar bone which will be bonded with metal. Even with the snap of pain from my back when breathing it is still very zen for me.

For the past week or two I have barely left the house. I can’t really work and they won’t let me but the doctors say sit still. I could be working but they want me healthy first. Ugh, and while I wait my collar bone sets and heals poorly.

Why not take advantage of that healing before they break it again?

Anyway, life is good regardless. Work is good. The team is awesome. I have been training really hard and can’t wait to get past this and enjoy the rest of the summer.

It’s just stuff to think about.

theories on space exploration…

January 26th, 2012 No comments

And such…

When early explorers first set out west across the atlantic, most people thought the world was flat. Most people thought that if you sailed far enough west you would drop off a plane into nothing. These vessels sailing out to the unknown, they weren’t carrying noble men or aristocrats, artists, merchants… they were crewed by people living on the edge of life… the mad men, the orphans, ex-convicts, outcasts like myself. As a felon, I’m an unlikely candidate for most things but perhaps not for this. Perhaps, I am the most likely.

Carl Sagan has an assistant…

Richard Berendzen

Within our lifetimes, we’ve marveled as biologists have managed to look at ever smaller and smaller things. And astronomers have looked further and further into the dark night sky, back in time and out in space. But maybe the most mysterious of all is neither the small nor the large: it’s us, up close. Could we even recognize ourselves, and if we did, would we know ourselves? What would we say to ourselves? What would we learn from ourselves? What would we really like to see if we could stand outside ourselves and look at us?

if you want to serve in the military…

January 26th, 2012 No comments

hey, in my opinion, if you are stupid enough to join the armed services, you go right ahead. and i mean that in no disrespect to those who have server or lost their lives defending this country. however, our armed services have turned into world police and they dont really defend US or fight in actual wars (dont knit pick me on this, until CONGRESS declares war on another country our people in uniform are cops with big guns).

but hey, if you want to join up? AND you happen to be gay? are you really trying to tell me that gay people are not worthy of possibly being killed for this country? really?

Mike Reynolds is an idiot.

OK Rep. Mike Reynolds is pushing a bill that would ban gays and lesbians from serving openly in the state’s National Guard – and it would let state officials ask about the sexual orientation of service members.
